TYPICAL TRYOUT LAYOUT
WHEN:
Typically late in Spring Semester for currently enrolled students or the first day of academic classes (a Wednesday) for newly enrolled students from 7pm to10pm. Please continue checking our social media and homepage for updated information.
WHERE:
Located in the MAC, either on the basketball court, in the green gym, or in the aerobics studio.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Tryouts are normally 2-3 hours long. We do a warm up, some technique across the floor (leaps, kicks, some turns), and then we go into learning two pieces of choreography: one that will be a new routine for the year, and one that is a repeat routine from the year prior. Captains for the upcoming season will help to facilitate the tryout process—dancers will be brought in in groups of 4 to perform the choreography in front of a panel of impartial judges. Typically the choreography is a mix of hip hop and jazz funk styles.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Dancers are encouraged to wear dance shoes, sneakers, or socks. Whatever is most comfortable. Most people wear leggings with a tightly fit top or crop top. Maybe a flannel or sweatshirt for around your waist for the hip hop choreo if that is more comfortable. Tryouts are physically demanding. Please be sure to bring a water bottle, planner, and writing utensil.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
MUDT typically consists of between 20-25 members with two alternate/understudy slots—our tryouts typically have 50-75 people tryout. Students of all majors, backgrounds, and ages (freshmen through senior) are welcome to audition. Results are delivered at the end of the tryout, followed by a brief meeting to distribute contracts to those who have been invited to stay. Full -year calendars are distributed on the first night of practice so that students can make necessary adjustments in their schedule for the length of the entire academic year.
